INSIDE VIEW

GENERAL:

The doors are SCISSOR DOORS as manufactured by Dorion Doors Inc., 2987, boul. Perrot, Île Perrot, Quebec, Canada J7V 8P4.

All doors are manufactured as per our shop drawings and standardized specifications described below.

All doors are also manufactured in accordance with the norm CSA W47.1 from the Canadian Welding Bureau.

CONCEPTION:

The scissor door consists of two horizontal panels joined at the centre with hinges. The top of the upper panel is hinged to the header of the structure made of vertical beams and HSS in the horizontal plane. One 100 mm (4") diameter bottom roller guide is supplied on each side of the lower panel that slide in the vertical plane made of angle-irons affixed to the vertical beams.

When the door is working, the meeting of both panels is pushed toward the exterior and the lower panel slides into the vertical tracks to refold the panels on themselves.

DEFLEXION:

The doors are manufactured to withstand an overload due to the wind of 1 kPa with less than 1/240 deflection in the horizontal plane.

In some cases, depending on the door size, an extra exterior truss is necessary.

PANELS:

The frame of the door panels will be made of steel HSS at least 75 mm x 5 mm minimum, reinforced with gussets and covered with covering sheets.

The covering sheets are .455 mm thick (26 gauge) in steel.

We use "Vicwest" series of products in their standard colours for the outside face and generally the "Muralic" pure white for the inside face.

The covering sheets are screwed on the frame with self-taping steel screws.

The lower panel has an inside truss to reduce the deflection as well as serving as a strut for the lifting mechanism.

The upper panel has an exterior truss, in certain cases, to respect the deflection.

The welding procedures as well as the welds, while the panels are being manufactured, are inspected by the welding supervisor in accordance with the norm CSA W47.1 from the Canadian Welding Bureau.

INSULATION:

The insulation is a injected fire-retardant polyurethane foam . The RSI value is ±3,52 (R-20).

HINGES:

The hinges will consist of round tubing welded on steel plates which in turn are welded to the frame of the door panels. The hinges are held together with a 25 mm diameter steel shaft inserted into place and secured mechanically.

The welding procedures as well as the welds, while the panels are being manufactured, are inspected by the welding supervisor in accordance with the norm CSA W47.1 from the Canadian Welding Bureau.

OPENING MECHANISM:

The opening mechanism consist of one electric motor provided with a friction electric brake, size 120 gear box with a 50:1 ratio linked to a minimum 38 mm in diameter shaft through the medium of #R80 minimum roller chains and sprockets.

The mechanism is mounted on the lower panel and held in place by an appropriate steel frame.

The final ratio will be sufficient to prevent the motor from counter-rotation.

Drums are mounted on the shaft and the number is determined by the width of the door. The lifting straps roll up on the drums to hoist or to bring down the door. The shaft must be specified according to the dimensions and weight of the panels and must be secured to the frame of the door by pillow blocks which are mechanically bolted.

Adjustable latches ensures an easy adjustment of the lifting straps on the upper panel.

The opening mechanism is also available to be attached on the upper or the adjacent wall or still on the right or on the left when a manual operation is specified or required.

The mechanism can also be counterbalanced by one or two counterweights depending on the opening width of the door.

LIFTING STRAPS:

The doors are provided with polyester lifting straps. The number of straps is determined by the size and the weight of the door. The straps will be 75 mm wide. The safety breaking point must be minimum 7:1.

The straps are quiet, easily adjustable and when rolling up, the door speed gradually increases which in turn provides a good safety breaking-point (slower at the end of the closing action).

It is possible to replace the polyester straps by aircraft galvanized steel cables, construction 7 x 19, with a breaking strength of 7:1.

OPERATION:

The operation is provided by the intermediary of an electric operator which power is determined by the size and the weight of the door.

The control station is flush mounted, easily accessible from the floor and is equipped with constant pressure two push-buttons marked «open-close».

It is possible to operate the door manually in case of a power failure by a gearing down of a chain hoist. It will result in a unit mounted on the upper or adjacent wall on both sides of the opening as well as, in certain cases, using counterweights to counterbalance the door itself.

SAFETY:

Manual latch:

The operation of the door when opening and closing is controlled by a limit switch in order to adjust the door to its full height or it complete closing.

A safety latch is provided at each extremity of the lower panel to interlock the door in place in the closing position.

Limit switches cut the power to the electric operator when the door is in the locked position.

It is possible to install, on the inside, an automatic latch on each side of the opening.

Automatic latch:

A mechanism that interlocks the door in place with pulleys and two limit switches.

WEATHERSTRIPS:

On the vertical perimeter at the extremities of the panels are fastened a rigid PVC extruded channel in which is inserted the "U"-shaped santoprene weatherstrip.

This type of weatherstrip is applied on the inside of the finish face and on the outside of the covering sheet face.

A closed cells santoprene weatherstrip 75 mm wide is glued in place the full width of the door between both panels.

A one length duro 60 neoprene rubber 6,4 mm thick is fastened at the top of the upper panel and above the hinges that secure the door in place on the frame.

A double rigid PVC extruded channel in which is inserted the "U"-shaped santoprene weatherstrip is fastened underneath the lower panel.

FINISH:

The frame of the panels is covered with one coat of epoxy primer paint 26 microns thick.

A tape is applied between the outside covering sheet and the inside face of the frame to prevent any contact between them.

The outside covering sheets are supplied in the standard colours from "Vicwest" series of products.

The "Muralic" type inside covering sheets are supplied in the colour pure white from "Vicwest".

GLAZING:

The standard glazing used in those doors is rectangular 610 mm x 305 mm in clear wired mesh glass 6,4 mm thick outside and clear tempered glass 3,2 mm thick inside, sealed "thermo" pane 25 mm thick encased in a steel moulding secured in place by EPDM rubber insulators. The inside moulding is secured in order to remove it if necessary.

OPTIONS:

- Pedestrian door inside the lower panel provided with either a panic bar, a door-latch, a lock or still a retaining chain.

AVAILABLE DIMENSIONS:

The doors can cover a maximum opening of 30 m (100 feet) wide x 7,62 m (25 feet) high.

DOORWAY FOR INSTALLATION:

The frame of the building must consist of "H"-beams on each side of the opening fastened to the ground with anchors or poured in cement and fastened at the header to a square HSS in the horizontal plane. The square HSS must be positioned at minimum 914 mm (3 feet) above the opening.

This frame is mounted either flush on the building or as doorjambs and must be fastened to the existing doorway with limbs.

The installation of this door is available on any building with an added steel doorway independently of the frame of the building. The doorway is fastened to the ground on cement pilasters and interlocked by the appropriate fasteners. The connection between this doorway and the existing building does not suffer any constraint.
